INVESTIGACION
- Karla Droguett (PhD) is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Nelson`s Lab. She has a Fondecyt fellow (2014-2017) to develop the project
- "Pro-inflammatory processes modify the cellular biomechanical properties that regulates the mucociliary transport in the airway epithelium".
- Karla completed her PhD and graduated of Biologist with Dr. Manuel Villalón in the Physiological Department of the Faculty of Biological
- Science in Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, working in purinergic regulation of ciliary activity.
- Actually, she works to understand the estructural physiology of the respiratory ciliated epithelium. Using atomic force microscopy she has
- determined the ciliary forces and the viscoelastic properties of the airway epithelial cells. Furthermore, her interest is evaluate
- proteomic changes in the transduction pathways triggers by inflammatory conditions (tracheal epithelial primary cultures and asthmatic
- mouse model), particularly associated to purinergic signalling, ionic flux and cytoskeleton components and epithelial barrier. Her studies
- have a great potential in the respiratory biomedical area. Dysfunctions in epithelial arquitecture and in the regulatory mechanism,
- of the epithelial permeability and ciliary activity, are consequences and lead to chronic airway diseases like asthma.
